By creating a study strategy and putting your wellbeing first, you can create a healthy balance between life, study and work.
1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Asking for help is a sign of strength, not a sign of weakness, and it can often make your problems seem much smaller. Our staff are familiar with the challenges of studying while working, so don’t hesitate to reach out to them for guidance or advice throughout your studies.
2. Minimise distractions while studying
Get the most out of your study sessions by creating a quiet work environment where you can stay focused. If you find yourself getting distracted by social media, try leaving your phone in another room so you can’t be interrupted by notifications or messages.
3. Look after yourself
With study, work and life responsibilities filling your days, it becomes particularly important to prioritise time to look after your wellbeing. Try put aside at least 30 minutes of the day to do something you enjoy, whether that’s going for a walk, writing in a journal or listening to music.
4. Figure out when you’re at your most focused
A huge benefit of online learning is that you can adapt your study schedule to fit you. If you’re a night owl, plan your study sessions in the evening when you’re most alert, or if you’re an early bird, consider setting your alarm early so you can wake up and start studying while your mind’s fresh.
5. Set SMART goals
Setting goals can help you to get the most out of your time and avoid distraction. A useful strategy for setting goals is SMART goals, which means your goals should be:
· Smart
· Measurable
· Achievable
· Relevant
· Timebound
6. Reflect on what you’ve learnt in your everyday work
Integrating your studies into your workday is a great way to put your new knowledge into practice. Even if you’re working in a different industry, consider how your new studies could help you to solve problems, understand a situation differently or work better in a team.
